Making the Connection to Faith
What the Best College Students Do
Pursuing higher education as an adult student was a leap of faith for me. It was especially so this time. I'm so grateful I did. I finally found the place where everything connects for me. Applying what I learned in the classroom to my life and connecting it with what I know to be true and that's the Word of God helped me to see I had found the place I had been looking for. I also looked for signs along the way to ensure me that I was on the right track. Each time I asked God would give me that reassurance I needed. The doors begin to open for me as a student. I look forward to a door of faith opening for me professionally. I'll keep you posted. |
Expand Your Experiences--Sierra Leone TEDxDayton 2014
This is one of my take aways from TEDxDayton last year. If you would have told me I would be hosting a radio show at Wright State University when Sierra Leone spoke this powerful words before she recited her mind blowing poem; I would have said, huh--who me? But when the opportunity to expand my experiences presented itself these words which must have been planted in my spirit gave me the courage to say, 'why not'. So, here I am every Monday afternoon opening myself up allowing myself to be vulnerable to share what I believe with others--and hope and pray somebody out there is listening. I don't know what's in store this year, but what I do is that whatever you're coming for and will put behind RE: you'll get it and then some.

Thoughts from my Special Guest
Reflections from the #SixLinesRetreat from Professor Furaha Henry-Jones
I can no longer say, "I don't have the words." It was a blessing to be with all of you this past weekend. My heart beats stronger. My eyes see better. And I feel particularly special to have words from each of you to utilize in my quiet room.-
Professor Furaha Henry-Jones left us with these #SixLines about
Autumn:
Some mistake autumn as a time
Of slowly dying and sleep
But for me the cooling air
Coaxes appreciation for sun rays
This move toward rest this time of cooling and warming
I embrace this transition
The Art of Listening. Dr. Marie Thompson taught us about the value of listening. We must learn how to listen in order to hear each other stories. We all have a story and we carry our stories in our bodies. That is why it is important to understand we don't just listen with our ears. We listen with our eyes, our senses and most importantly with our hearts-without judgement. We must also allow space for people to be vulnerable and share with us. My favorite aha moment was when she said, "What isn't said is more important than what is said." Hmmmm
